Registration

Department of Taxation may authorize off-highway vehicle dealer to issue certificates of operation; form; duties of authorized dealer; authorized dealer not to receive compensation or charge or collect fee for services; regulations. [Effective until 1 year after the date the Interim Finance Committee issues a notice to the Department of Motor Vehicles that adequate money is available to begin registering off-highway vehicles or until July 1, 2011, whichever is sooner, and after that if on July 1, 2011, such notice has not been given.]

NRS 490.070 Department of Motor Vehicles may authorize off-highway vehicle dealer to receive and submit applications for the issuance of certificates of title and registration and renewal of registration; duties of authorized dealer; fee; regulations. [Effective 1 year after the date the Interim Finance Committee issues a notice to the Department of Motor Vehicles that adequate money is available to begin registering off-highway vehicles or on July 1, 2011, whichever is sooner, and expires by limitation on July 1, 2011, if such notice is not given before that date.]

Motorcycles are subject to the same registration requirements as other vehicles. You must have a properly signed-off title or Dealers Report of Sale and a Nevada Evidence of Insurance Card. See Vehicle Registration Requirements. Motorcycles are exempt from emissions inspections.

Motorcycle registrations are assessed an extra $6 fee to help fund Nevada Rider safety programs throughout the state. See the Nevada Office of Traffic Safety and Nevada Rider web sites. Registration fees and governmental services taxes are calculated in the same manner as other vehicles.

"Motorcycle” means every motor vehicle equipped with a seat or a saddle for the use of the driver and designed to travel on not more than three wheels in contact with the ground, including a power cycle but excluding a tractor and a moped. (NRS 486.041)

Any motorized vehicle which does not have the normal safety equipment such as lights and mirrors or is not built to federal vehicle standards is an off-road vehicle and is restricted to off-road use only. This includes all-terrain vehicles, pocket bikes, motorized scooters and snowmobiles, but does not include converted off-highway two wheeled motorcycles.




Required equipment

1. At least one headlamp that illuminates objects at least 500 feet ahead of the vehicle;

2. At least one tail lamp that is visible from at least 500 feet behind the vehicle;

3. At least one red reflector on the rear of the vehicle, unless the tail lamp is red and reflective;

4. A stop lamp on the rear of the vehicle; and

5. A muffler which is in working order and which is in constant operation when the vehicle is running.


Duties of operator

1. Comply with all traffic laws of this State;

2. Ensure that the registration of the off-highway vehicle is attached to the vehicle in accordance with NRS 490.083; and

3. Wear a helmet.
